These paintings are based on themes and stories from Hindu Mythology. Interestingly, the word "Pattachitra" is derived from two words "Patta" meaning Canvas and "Chitra" meaning painting. It is manifested by rich colourful application, creative motifs and designs and portrayal of simple themes, mostly mythological in depiction.
